How It Works

Step 1 Bring in your gently used children's clothing, toys and baby equipment.
Step 1 While you check out the great kids stuff in the store, the buyer will review your items.
Step 1 The buyer will select and make an offer on the items that meet current style, safety and condition standards, as well as store's current stock levels.
Step 1 Once you accept the offer, you’ll be on your way with some extra money, some great new stuff for your kids, or both!

At Once Upon A Child you'll find a huge selection of gently used kids clothing, toys, furniture and equipment at up to 70% off retail! We're not your typical secondhand store. The items that we buy and sell are next to new, good quality, clean and have been checked for safety standards.

No appointment necessary - we buy every day and will pay you on the spot! Check with your local store for additional details.

Selling Tips

  • In order for us to offer the latest and greatest in styles at value prices, clothing and accessories must be purchased within the last five years.
  • Equipment and toys must meet current safety standards and include all parts. Not sure if your item qualifies? Bring it in and we’ll check it out!
  • Check out our what we buy page to see what types of items we buy and sell, we know we buy items you have not even thought of!
  • Be sure your apparel items are freshly laundered and in good condition – no stains, fading, or excessive wear.
  • Clean toys and equipment sell best.
  • It is most efficient for us to review items folded neatly in a box, bin or tote. Please, no hangers or garbage bags.
  • It’s always a good idea to call us to find out about what we buy.
What We're Buying

We'll gladly consider purchasing your children's new or gently used clothing, toys & books,  and equipment. There is no appointment necessary and we pay you when we are finished inspecting the items we can accept and choose to carry based on store demand. We operate on a first-come/first-served basis. We only accept drop-offs until we reach a point where we cannot finish all the drop offs by our closing time.  At that point we will stop drop-offs for the day.  That time will be different each day based on how many come in.  We must finish by our closing time.   Therefore, the earlier you come, the better your chances of being able to drop off and not be turned away.   We'll quote you an "estimated wait time" for how long we estimate it will take us to get to your items and then to process your items, based on how many customers have come before you.  On some days, like the weekends, we have many customers bringing items in , so we ask for your patience in the longer wait time, as our "First Come" list is very long on those days.  You don't have to stay.  We will gladly call you when done, or Feel free to stay and shop or return to our store prior to close to review your quote. You can then accept your quote or choose to take all your items back.  We have also found it necessary to limit the quantity of containers you can bring in each day to 2, in order to get to everyone's orders in a timely manner.   Please note that In some sizes (like newborn to 18 months) we may not choose many of your excellent condition items due to the number of these items we receive daily.  To be fair to all, we make an offer on some of everybody's top quality, like new, infant clothing in these sizes, but our store could not hold all that come in daily.

Here are some tips for getting the most from your selling experience:

Clothing must be in excellent condition, of current style, freshly laundered, no odor, no spots or stains, and neatly organized,.  No hangars.  Toys, equipment and furniture items must be assembled by you in store to verify all parts are present.  Please bring all clothing items laid flat in a laundry basket, tote or a box. (If we open a box and we see mildew or bugs, we will immediately close the box and not go thru your items).  Containers will not be accepted if your items pile over the top.  These things can get knocked off and lost and we also need to be able to pile your containers up in order to fit everyone's things behind our counter all day.  (Plastic bags tend to wrinkle your clothing and hold odors and we will not be able to accept those items, as items we choose go directly onto the show floor and will not sell if wrinkled.  Bags also split and we can lose your items.)  Two piece outfits should be placed together (but not pinned or taped). Do not hang your items on hangars.  Here are some of the items we DO NOT process:  Underwear,  plush toys, small loose items, toys or games with lots of pieces, softback books, pacifiers or teethers, games that attach to TV, all cribs (due to changes in government crib regulations), used car seats, glass items, VCR tapes, breast pumps, baby monitors, toy guns or knives, call us if you have questions before you bring an item.

At Once Upon A Child, safety and product quality are always our top priorities. For these reasons, there are some items we are unable to buy such as car seats, cribs, and recalled products.   Please allow us time to check items you bring in against the national CPSC recall list.  Toys and furniture will be checked for recalls, must include all original parts, be clean, and in good working condition.  This naturally takes a good deal of time, but insures the buying experience of our customers buying items from us.  Please look through your toys and equipment first to make sure everything is clean and working to avoid unloading all these bulky items into the store, only to have them not accepted due to not working or stains and food on your equipment, then having to take them all back in the car.

All your items are processed as quickly as possible; however, on weekends, Once Upon a Child stores tend to get  backed up.  We will process your items and call you just as soon as possible.  We  process in order of your arrival .  Ask us how many are ahead of you when checking in.  It will help others waiting if you do not bring in more than 2 cases at a time, as this will greatly increase the wait time of your fellow customers behind you, since we thoroughly inspect every item to insure quality items in our store. (One large container can take us an hour of sorting and computer entering)  We ask that you bring in no more than 2 containers or large items at a time.  Saturdays are the busiest right now, and we may not get to your items left later on Saturday until Sunday. as so many of you have things for us to look at and process into the computer.  We take very good care of your containers and mark each with your arrival number.  We will call you when we are finished processing and no items may be left for more than 24 hours after we call you that we are ready, due to our storage limitations.  Any items not picked up in that time frame will be removed from our location and donated.  Please note that this statement is on your sign in sheet.  You are signing that you have read this condition.
